Expert service guide

Freelance Accounting & Bookkeeping Projects

Turn your accounting experience into a clearly bounded service: a backlog clean-up, a monthly close or a migration between bookkeeping systems. Buyers need to understand which records you will reconcile, what they must provide and who approves adjustments. A focused proposal is easier to assess than a general promise to manage all finance work.

Define what you will deliver

Choose the outputs that fit the actual brief. Name what is included, what depends on the client and what would require a scope change.

  • Reconciled bank and payment-platform accounts, with unresolved items listed separately.
  • A reviewed chart of accounts, opening balances and a documented categorisation approach.
  • A monthly reporting pack with an explanation of movements and outstanding questions.

Show relevant evidence

Explain your own contribution and use only samples you have permission to share. A focused example is easier to evaluate than an unrelated collection.

  • An anonymised reconciliation showing how you investigated and resolved a discrepancy.
  • A sample month-end checklist and reporting pack using fictional figures.
  • Evidence of experience in the requested accounting software and applicable professional credentials.

Ask the questions that change the scope

Question 01

How many entities, accounts, currencies and transactions are involved?

Question 02

When were the books last reconciled, and are source documents available?

Question 03

Who reviews entries, and is tax filing part of a separate engagement?

Bookkeeping is different from statutory audit, regulated tax advice and filing authority. State the services you are qualified and authorised to provide in the relevant jurisdiction.

A delivery plan a buyer can review

Milestone 01

Assess the records

Inspect a permitted sample, identify missing statements and agree how historic errors will be handled.

Milestone 02

Reconcile and review

Process the agreed period, keep an exception log and obtain approval for material adjustments.

Milestone 03

Close and hand over

Deliver reports, outstanding issues and a repeatable checklist for the next reporting cycle.

Explain how you price the work

Quote by transaction volume, number of entities and backlog quality. Separate one-off clean-up from ongoing monthly work and explain what triggers a scope change.

Agree the currency, applicable taxes, payment milestones and exclusions. Review Workfry's current expert pricing before applying. A project guide does not guarantee work or earnings.

Illustrative proposal structure

Make the first message specific

I will first review one month of records and confirm the account list. The quoted scope covers the agreed period, reconciliation and a month-end pack. Missing evidence and tax filing are separate items. I will send an exception report before making adjustments that require your approval.

Rewrite the example for the actual brief, your capacity and your verified experience. It is not a submitted application.

Plan for the country you work from

Check local context, working hours and professional authority. Country guides do not imply that all projects originate there or that every expert is eligible for cross-border work.
